USA Storm Chase 2019

Day 9: Woodward, OK to Plainview, TX

The second-to-last chase day was another full-on chase, with an enhanced risk from the SPC. Unfortunately, storms were almost all HP, with low visibility. The first storms of the day formed near Paducah in the Texas Panhandle. This beast had radar-indicated hail over 4 inches in diameter, so we kept out of the core for obvious reasons!:

The area around Lubbock, TX has had devestating, historic flooding this spring, with miles of farmland underwater and nowhere for it to go, with daily severe storms adding to the problems. As a result, some of the main highways were barely passable with many stranded vehicles. The roads were like this for miles:

It was pretty much impossible to chase in the conditions, so pulled up for some evening shots as another storm rolled in past Lubbock. After dinner we spotted a much more isolated supercell. Luckily our route to the hotel followed the storm so we stopped a couple of times to get some lightning shots. Most was intracloud but I managed one CG:
