Day 8: Tulsa, OK to Woodward, OK
Another moderate risk day from SPC this day. Again, poor visibility and lots of flooding from days of storms in the area made it a very challenging day. We were joined today by James Menzies, a fellow brit who now lives in the US, in his new Chevy Tahoe chase car. Here, all four cars are about to depart from lunch at Weatherford, OK:
Storms this day were all 'HP' (high precipitation) and structure was not great again. The first storm we encountered was near Spearman, TX. We did have some very close, powerful CGs from this one though. Another storm near Canadian, TX produced some funnels, and possibly a tornado, but again, we couldn't see much. The TORUS cars were around this storm too:
Just after dark, a stronger supercell formed near Follet, TX. It put down a tornado about 3 miles from our location, resulting in both my first night-time tornado and also my first Texas tornado. Apologies for the poor quality phone shots!:
