USA Storm Chase 2018

Day 5: Limon, CO to Limon, CO

We got up at 6 a.m. today for an early long drive down to a risk in Texas, but decided to go for a target more local to Limon instead as we would be in an easier position for the next day. We therefore enjoyed a lazy morning and lunch at Oscar's Bar and Grill, Limon, waiting for storms to fire. More trucks around here too, and even a group of hot rods:

We got on the road around 3 p.m. as the first storms started to fire. One cell in particular looked interesting, and was isolated, indicating it was the best prospect for utilising the ingredients to turn into a supercell. We watched from a fantastic viewpoint not far from Woodrow, CO:

The storm really started to get its act together so we decided to jump in the cars again and follo, to get a better view. It was already starting to take on some nice structure:

By the time we pulled up, near Last Chance, CO, the storm had an amazing Low Precipitation (LP) structure with the rain foot creating some very high winds to its south (left):

After around 30-40 minutes it quickly fell apart so we headed back towards Limon for the night. On the way however, we stopped for a while to view developments to the south again around sunset. One very nice supercell formed just after the sun went down, aquiring a TVS (tornado vortex signature) for a time. It didn't last long though and became obscured by low cloud as it got dark so we left for the hotel and called it a day:
