April 12th: Thunderstorms, Hail and Rainbows - South Hampshire
A re-run of the day before; thunderstorms had formed by lunchtime:
After work I headed straight for the South Downs again. I arrived in perfect time, with a heavy hail shower just clearing to the SE, allowing the Sun to return:
The conditions were clear between the showers, giving excellent views of the receding storm. It was still producing the odd rumble of thunder:
The back edge looked increasingly 'atomic':
Inland, to the NW, a line of thunderstorms had developed and were moving across the Winchester-Southampton area. I could hear rumbles of thunder as it approached, and around this time a large funnel cloud was photographed over Southampton:
I headed back to the New Forest for the sunset and caught this cell over Bournemouth at around 1900BST:
I then got caught in a 1 hr traffic queue, but managed to pull over to get some late convection as the Sun went down:
